North of Kuta, Legian is more relaxed and laid back than the main areas but still enjoys fantastic shopping, dining and entertainment. The sleepy pace of Legian is ideal for enjoying the natural beauty of this tropical island and is a far cry from central Bali's famous holiday party atmosphere.
Northern Legian borders Seminyak and is a popular surf beach that offers a welcome break from crowded Kuta. There are a small number of 'organised' tourist attractions but Legian is best explored at your own pace. The stunning natural environment and rich abundant culture showcases the 'real' Bali and most holiday makers spend their time shopping, eating and relaxing on the beach. Legian Beach also happens to be one of the best beaches in Bali from which to view the breathtaking sunsets.
If 'island time' and indulging in a fabulous range of food and drink isn't enough to relax you, there are day spas and spa treatments available all over Legian. Manicures, pedicures, hair braiding and informal massages can be enjoyed right on the beach or you can drop in at one of the many day spas for therapeutic massages, Javanese 'lulur' body scrubs, rempah and honey treatments and clay body masks. A number of spas offer treatments using luxurious virgin coconut oil and all services are very reasonably priced, far cheaper than you would get at home.
Holiday shopping is one of Legian's most popular activities with many boutiques offering big name surfwear at heavily discounted prices. There are also a number of charming shops and stalls offering traditional Balinese wears that start at just a few dollars and make excellent souvenirs or gifts. For small trinkets, shell and bead work Jalan Padma is the best.
Legian's weather is warm and mild with temperatures reaching 20°C - 33°C (68°F - 93°F) year round. The west monsoon season is characterised by sunny days, high humidity and brief but heavy showers during December to March. June to September on the other hand has hardly any rainfall in the lowland coastal areas and features low humidity and cooler evening temperatures, great for holidays.
Legian is easily explored on foot but there are also motorbike rentals and taxi's available for transportation. Bali's most popular and reputable taxi operators, Bali Taksi, has a 24 hour call service meaning safe, affordable and reliable transport at any time of the day or night.
