Bali Zoo

Centrally located in Bali's Gianyar Regency, Bali Zoo is just 15 minutes from Ubud and conveniently close to other major tourist centres including Sanur, Nusa Dua, Seminyak and Kuta. Open in 2002, Bali Zoo is the island's only privately owned zoological park and offers 22 acres of lush landscaped gardens and more than 350 exotic animals. The diverse species of animals housed at the zoo are mainly native to Indonesia and include endangered and rare species like the Sumatran Tiger and Elephant, Orangutans, Binturong and Sun Bears.

Tiger in Zoo

Over 170 friendly staff care for the hundreds of animals which reside in the quality eco-habitats of Bali Zoo. Some of the top attractions at Bali Zoo include the Elephant Expedition, Elephant Back Safari, the Treewalk and A Night At The Zoo. The Elephant Expedition takes you on one of Bali's best new elephant trails riding on the back of an elephant. Beginning at a traditional, 100 year old Sumatran buffalo house, the expedition makes its way through the zoo grounds before venturing outside the park and into a nearby wilderness area crossing the Wos River and visiting a grassy valley and natural waterfall. A pit stop for a refreshing drink from a young coconut at Bale Bengong also includes a short trek to the region's oldest village temple before returning to the Zoo.

The Elephant Back Safari is a shorter trek that winds through the tropical panorama of the Zoo, surrounded by the sounds of the birds in the aviary and the screeching of the resident gibbons. Visit an elephant habitat and bathing pool before returning along a picturesque route through the jungle with views of several animal enclosures along the way. The Treewalk is a challenging tree top circuit that offers 15 stages of elevated activities including flying foxes, spider nets, flying swings, wooden bridges, tarzan jumps and more to suit all fitness levels.

A Night At The Zoo is a magical experience unlike anything else, giving visitors the opportunity to see the Zoo's exotic animals in their natural nocturnal habitats. Beginning with an elephant encounter and hand feeding experience, the night progresses with a photo and petting session of pythons, Borneo bear cats and even the Sumatran Sinyulong freshwater crocodiles. You'll then be treated to a guided walk through the Zoo and dramatic fire dance performance that signals the end to the night with a special al fresco dinner under the stars next to the lion enclosure.
