Cairns Attractions

As the gateway to all things Tropical North Queensland, Cairns is a stunning holiday destination where nature meets the city. The waterfalls and crater lakes of the mountainous countryside gives way to a cosmopolitan mecca of all the modern comforts, making Cairns attractions as diverse as the region itself and a popular place to get away from it all without sacrificing comfort, facilities or activities.

The Cairns Esplanade is one the most popular Cairns attractions and is home to a fantastic range of leisure areas complete with a large sand lagoon, outdoor amphitheatre, children's playground, picnic areas, gazebos, public BBQs and more.

The main departure point for a wide range of Great Barrier Reef tours and cruises, the Reef Fleet Terminal features tour operators, retail shops, and eateries and sees a number of vessels daily including dive charters, reef vessels, cruise liners, sail charters and river cruise vessels.

Depending on when you're in town, there are often a fantastic range of events held at the Cairns Convention Centre. A stunning and innovative building, the centre has been voted in the top ten of the world's best international convention centres.

The Reef Hotel Casino is also a popular place to spend time with a great range of entertainment options even for those not interested in gambling. The conservatory is especially spectacular and the atrium offers world class entertainment nightly.

However if you'd prefer to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine outside, the Flecker Botanic Gardens are the ideal way to spend your day. Take in the stunning scenery and enjoy a delightful afternoon tea of fresh homemade scones.

Cominos House is also a feature of particular interest and this arts and environment centre provides a fascinating insight to the local culture and nature. However one of the most iconic Cairns attractions is its wonderful range of local markets. The Night Markets are held on the Esplanade and offer more than 70 shops to browse from 5 pm while Rusty's Markets are the place to pick up fresh local produce on Sheridan Street.

The leisurely retail centre of The Pier Marketplace offers a fantastic range of activities and Cairns attractions including the weekend 'mud markets.'
