Located in Marcoola just a few minutes north of Maroochydore, the Sunshine Coast Airport is owned and operated by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, who also manages and develops the facility. The Sunshine Coast's principal airport, it is the region's only airport with the ability to service operations of jet aircraft.

The Sunshine Coast Airport is operational 4 hours a day and handles approximately 87,000 aircraft movements per annum. There are two runways at the Sunshine Coast Airport to cater for the facility's aircraft traffic with the main runway measuring 1797m long and 30m wide, suitable for B737/A320 aircraft. The second runway is much smaller at only 650m long and 18m wide and is for general aviation aircraft only, restricted to a take-off weight of no more than 5700kg.

The Sunshine Coast Airport terminal handles a capacity of more than 1 million passengers per annum and offers a variety of shopping and dining options including cafes, convenient take away options, bars, duty free and fashion boutiques, newsagents and convenience stores, surf shops and more. There are a number of public transport options that service the airport as well as shuttle companies and car hire outlets. There are also a great range of car parking options available including short term, long term and premium long term stays.

Despite operating services 24 hours a day, the Sunshine Coast Airport is sensitive to the nearby residents and operates a 'Fly Neighbourly Policy' that restricts aircraft over 5700kg from flying between 10pm and 7am.
