My third visit since 2012, and still an unbelievably beautiful place with marine and bird life. With near-shore and outer reefs, there is safe snorkelling for all ages. The rays in the shallow sandy bay are only a short walk away. The variety of activities for adults and kids, and the staff's knowledge, are great.
The dining is still pretty average in terms of options. An all-you-can-eat buffet for lunch and dinner, which is pretty good but becomes costly. Although I appreciate that everything has to be transported from the mainland. Or a very limited 'takeaway' option. There are processed bar snacks e.g. nuts and crisps, and occasionally a sandwich, but nothing else substantial, especially if you don't need a huge buffet at lunch. The resort really would benefit from an 11-4pm simple cafe-style option via the bar area. For example, smashed avo on toast, bacon and egg roll, omelettes, fruit platters, cheese boards, made to order rolls.
Overall, the infrastructure is looking dated, aged and in some cases neglected, with leaking and rotting timbers, including bathroom cabinetry, plants growing in gutters (compromising buildings). Of course, it's difficult in a harsh environment, but its time the resort had an injection of funds to repair, refurnish and refresh.
The sunset will forever be stunning.

Second time to Heron, and won't be my last. Awesome snorkel/dive sites. Amazing prolific bird life. Huge pelagic nesting turtles, cute hatchling turtles. Sharks and rays
