Reported to reception that the smoke alarm was missing on the 2nd morning, it still wasn’t replaced by the time we checked out after 5 days... Very good price but only a hot water jug in the room, no toaster or microwave and no cutlery, plates or bowls. Ducted A/C set to a ridiculously low temperature and isn’t adjustable, had to turn it off and open doors regularly to maintain a nice temp. Staff were very nice and helpful. TV wasn’t working at first but was sorted rather quickly.
Some of the rooms are not in an ideal location and you feel very isolated away from everything in the hotel. Rooms on the reception side are much better located. Facilities at the 2nd pool such as toilets / bar and some shade would be ideal.
I would definitely recommend Hotel Grand Chancellor- as it's an ideal place to stay in Palm Cove, close to the beach and a short walk to the shops, although it is a little overpriced for what it is. We paid over $1000 for our 5 night stay in a standard suite, and although the room was lovely, it isn't worth the money you pay. It's definitely in need of a makeover. Not to mention the cable TV with a 90s picture. Despite, we had freezing cold aircon, modern shower amenities, and a comfortable king bed. The room service fairies were amazing in maintaining our room. The buffet breakfast 2 for 1 voucher is probably the cheapest eat in Palm Cove at $25 for 2 people. The food was fresh and enjoyable, and the staff friendly.
We had a bit of hassle with the in-room movies, with reception staff not fully explaining what to do and us ending up being charged $85 for movies. This was resolved with the receptionist taking full responsibility. We loved Palm Cove and Cairns, and would love to stay at the Grand Chancellor again- but perhaps when the hotel has a bit of an upgrade or drops their price a little.
Had been to Palm Cove 20 +years ago. It has changed, and not for the better. Could not recommend it to friends, as it has lost its character and charm. The hotel was good, but could have been anywhere in the world! Saved by a good swimming pool.
Staff were all fantastic, in particular Patricia who went above and beyond to help :)
All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly but would like to say a big thank you to Sam who made us feel like we were at home. we have 2 suggestions the first being that in the disabled toilet it would've been easier if there was a bit more room between the sink and the toilet. The other is to put something on the bottom of the wooden chair legs so when people in the room above drag the chair across the tiles at 3.30 am it doesn't wake others up. Overall we had a great time and will recommend the hotel. Thanks
