Animal Welfare: My Phuket Holiday prides itself on animal welfare and has taken a number of steps to unsure the happiness and wellbeing of its elephants including keeping feeding and tactile interactions to a minimum to give the elephants as much choice and freedom as possible. They have also replaced saddles with blankets, replaced bullhooks with fibreglass guiding canes and use an elevated loading platform to prevent elephants from having to stretch down for tourists to get onto their backs. Elephant sleeping quarters also allow for more interaction, space and movement overnight and an enrichment programme keeps elephants stimulated both physically and cognitively.
