Although the Sunshine Coast has consistently been undergoing growth and development, there’s a new attraction in town that is taking visitors on a step back in time. In fact, all the way back to the dawn of time with the new Palmersaurus dinosaur park Coolum. Opened by mining magnate Clive Palmer on the grounds of his Palmer Coolum Resort, the dinosaur park offers 160 animatronic dinosaur exhibits.
Situated just 10 minutes from Peregian Beach and the 4.5 star The Beach Retreat Coolum, the Sunshine Coast’s newest Jurassic attraction is conveniently located close to a range of Coolum and the Sunshine Coast’s most popular holiday destinations.
Opened just in time for Christmas on 14 December 2013, the dinosaur park Coolum features roaring, robotic dinosaurs of all shapes and sizes. The moving attractions range from 10m high to 22m long and are an interactive and entertaining attraction to be enjoyed by children and the whole family.
With an opening attended by Australia Zoo royalty Terri, Bindi and Robert Irwin, the park is designed to offer tourism, economic and environmental benefits to the Sunshine Coast and has added to the original ‘Jeff’ the dinosaur who was previously a firm fixture at the Palmer Coolum Resort.
However now Jeff has some friends, lots on friends in fact. The dinosaur park Coolum has a huge variety of dinosaurs including well-known pre-historic creatures like Velociraptors, Brachiosaurus, Triceratops and the formidable Tyrannosaurus Rex. There are even some less familiar yet equally fascinating dinosaurs such as an Ankylosaur, Demetrodons and Gastornis.
Keen observers will also spot baby dinosaurs just hatched out of eggs, poking their little heads out into the world. Also, don’t forget to look up! There are a number of airborne dinosaurs suspended above your head including Pterodactyls and Pteranodons.
The world’s largest dinosaur park, Coolum’s Palmersaurus is a popular new attraction is a must see on any holiday to Coolum.
