Renowned as Australia's best sailing region, the Whitsundays offers a spectacular location to learn to sail. Aboard Academy-approved sailing vessels, you'll undertake a variety of courses while enjoying an adventurous 2.5 day cruise or 5 day cruise of discovery through the crystal waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Your focus will be the course syllabus and numbers are limited to a maximum of 14 students learning to sail at any one time.
Whilst devoting less time than other Whitsunday cruises to tourism and sightseeing, these learn to sail courses are a great way to enjoy one of the most magnificent natural environments in Australia while gaining hands-on experience in sailing.
Undertaken over a 2.5 day cruise, this fun yet practical course introduces the parts of a yacht and their overall running, with a focus on safety and regulations. Even beginners will enjoy being active in all areas of boat operation including basic equipment and manoeuvres.
A more comprehensive course giving you the skills to become an active crew member, this syllabus covers workbook / course notes. Course covers ropework & tying knots, yacht handling, boating information, marine rules & regulations, preparing a yacht to go on voyage, the sail types, selection, setting and managing, safety at sea, managing emergencies on a yacht. Over 5 days and 5 nights you'll be given the opportunity to practice your new skills and/or require internationally recognised IYT certification plus you will have time to enjoy the Whitsundays by snorkelling and exploring the islands.
