The German designed and Italian built carbon fibre Maxi Boomerang measures 83ft long and 20ft wide. Featuring a sloop design, the yacht boasts a strong mast which extends 110ft above deck. The British Defender on the other hand, is a high tech Whitbread Maxi who was raced around the world in 1990 by the British armed forces.
Virtually identical, these yachts have been refitted for comfortable Whitsunday sailing tours and feature spacious open plan designs below deck with headroom higher than 6ft throughout, 3 showers and toilets and 3 dining tables. The wide decks offer plenty of space to relax and take in the exciting sailing experience of these racing thoroughbreds.
Both vessels have open plan accommodation, with 3 bathrooms, 16 Single Bunks and 6 Double Bunks.

The following itinerary is an example of a scheduled cruise. All cruises are subject to weather and tidal conditions and the Captain’s professional judgement in putting together the best itinerary to keep guests happy, safe and well.
Meet your crew at Abell Point Marina at 1.30pm for a head count, to depart the marina at 14:00pm. Feeling energetic? Get involved with setting the sails! Otherwise, sit back and relax as you glide across the Whitsunday Passage and over to Hook Passage, between Hook and Whitsunday Islands. Enjoy the first sunset of the trip and you sit back and make new friends.
Wake up have breakfast as you travel to Tongue bay where you’ll be whisked over to Whitsunday Island. Take a guided bush walk to the Hill Inlet Lookout to take in the view. After, go down to the beach and explore. Once back on board, you’ll have lunch and sail north to another island where put on your snorkelling gear and jump in over the fringing reef. Swim with the tropical fish and other marine life. Stop again in another secluded bay, either for another snorkel or get dropped off at the beach just before sunset. Enjoy a drink and pre-dinner snacks and watch the sun set over the islands. After, dinner back on board, and let the night unfold.
Early rise for breakfast, then it is time to set the sails for the final time and make way across the Whitsunday Passage. Arrive back into Airlie Beach at 11.00am.

What to Bring: clothes, towel, toiletries, hat, swimwear, sunscreen, jacket/sweater, camera, sunglasses, runners or sandals for island walks, alcohol and soft drinks. Guests can bring your own alcohol, no glass or red wine please. Soft drinks are sold on board, but guests may bring their own. Guests are asked to limit luggage. Please pack in soft sided zipless bag. We provide dry bags hire; for a deposit of $50 (cash only) which will be refunded on return. We also provide luggage storage at the Explore Whitsundays Reservations Office for $10 per person.
Children: This cruise is suitable for 15+ years. Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
