The German designed and Italy built carbon fibre Maxi Boomerang measures 83ft long and 20ft wide. Featuring a sloop design, the yacht boasts a strong mast which extends 110ft above deck. The British Defender on the other hand, is a high tech Whitbread Maxi who was raced around the world in 1990 by the British armed forces.
Virtually identical, these yachts have been refitted for comfortable Whitsunday sailing tours and feature spacious open plan designs below deck with headroom higher than 6ft throughout, 3 showers and toilets and 3 dining tables. The wide decks offer plenty of space to relax and take in the exciting sailing experience of these racing thoroughbreds.
Due to damages sustained during Cyclone Debbie in March 2017, Boomerang will be out of action until 26th April 2017.
Open Plan Share/Double Cabin: Dormitory style accommodation with single bunk or double beds
Your day begins around 8.00am for breakfast before a refreshing swim or relaxing bushwalk. The morning is free for you to explore your island destination, relax on the beach or discover the beauty of the coral reefs at a snorkelling or diving hot spot.
Lunch is served at approximately 1.00pm and after a leisurely meal it's time to set sail for the Whitsunday Islands to reach a safe anchorage point for the night. By 5.30pm other yachts are pulling into port, allowing you to mingle with other passengers and share a sailing story or two over drinks at sunset.
Dinner is served by 7.30pm and the night is yours to party away or enjoy quiet reflection under the stars before calling it a day. The yachts feature a myriad of sailing gear and winches and passengers are welcome to assist the crew who well teach you the sailing basics as well as how to hoist and trim the sails and you might even get to take the helm.
