Less than 2 hours south of Auckland, the main international gateway, getting to Waikato is an easy drive along the Southern Motorway and State Highway 1. If you have time to add an hour onto your drive, continue on through Hamilton to Waitomo for an easy yet rewarding drive that is well worth the extra time. Taking just over 2 and a half hours from Auckland, follow the Southern Motorway and State Highway 1 to Hamilton before taking State Highway 3 south through Te Awamutu, Otorohanga and Kihikihi before taking Waitomo Caves Road all the way to the village.
