With less self-catering accommodation options than some of Japan’s other popular ski areas, you’ll get to know Hakuba restaurants quite well throughout your holiday. After a big day out on the slopes there’s nothing better than retiring to a warm bar or restaurant to let someone else take care of filling your belly. There are so many options to choose from including traditional Japanese cuisine, western favourites, Tex Mex, German, Austrian and Swiss cuisine and even American style fare.
There are also some great bars offering a fun place for après ski socialising. Catch up with friends and fellow skiers as you relax those muscles and cosy up by the fire with a hot meal and some warming sake. Kick things off at the bar before settling in for a leisurely dinner or party on into the night with a few of the standout options in Hakuba.
One of the oldest cafes in town, Café de 4260 has been serving skiers breakfast, lunch and dinner for 40 years. Serving a variety of Japanese and western meals including pancakes, waffles, pizza, ramen, tonkatsu and buta-don, the café also offers takeaway options. Fresh coffee, hot chocolate and alcoholic beverages including cocktails, draft beer and Japanese sake are also available.
For something a little different, Alpine Restaurant Huttenzauber offers German, Austrian and Swiss food and drink in the night ski area, offering a convenient ski-in ski-out dining option. Open for breakfast, lunch and the occasional dinner, diners can enjoy bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, apple strudel and beer steins with the convenience of onsite equipment hire. For something a little more authentic, Ohyokkuri offers country-style Japanese hot pot means, a favourite with locals and the perfect way to warm you up. Specialty dishes combine home style cooking with local meats and dumplings to make for tasty fare indeed.
Rosenheim at Hotel Rosenheim is a fun place to eat and socialise with daily special events where you can experience Japanese culture and cuisine and indulge in hand-rolled sushi, soba noodles and mochi not to mention sake, karaoke and happy hour. If you’re all about the happy hour then you’re going to love the night spots of Hakuba. Recovery Bar & Café is conveniently located just across from the Happo Gondola and offers cheap drinks and great western food like steak, burgers, pizza and fish and chips. Open til late you’ll drink to live music or DJ sets.
Bar Refuel is another nightlife hot spot in central Happo offering great music, darts, freestyle ski and snowboarding videos and entertainment. A lively hangout for locals and visitors you can enjoy draft beer, cocktails, wine, sake and whiskey as well as a selection of bar food like edamame, udon noodles, French fries and chicken nuggets.
