The waters around Hamilton Island make it the ideal snorkelling and diving spot. Calm conditions and the crystal water of the Coral Sea, make Hamilton Island diving one of the most popular activities on the island. Whether it's your first time or you're a qualified diver, there are a range of tours to suit all skill levels and the excellent visibility and dramatic coral and marine life of the Great Barrier Reef are an unbelievable sight.
For first time divers, Hamilton Island offers complimentary introductions to scuba diving in the pool daily, however you must pre-book. If you're keen to get out and explore in the real world, there are introductory courses that include everything you need such as gear and equipment, instruction and two guided dives. If you have more than a couple of days on Hamilton Island, you can even spend 3-4 days taking a PADI Open Water course of Advanced Diver course.
If you're an experienced diver, there's plenty of equipment available to rent and day trips depart for the Bait Reef Marine Park which is a Barrier Reef site that is home to manta rays, turtles and a range of marine life as well as a variety of terrain including swim-throughs, underwater canyons, walls and coral gardens. There are also combined dive and snorkel day trips which visit three amazing dive sites and include a 3 hour guided snorkel safari visiting Chalkie's Beach and Whitehaven Beach. All day trips include gear, drinks, snacks and a buffet lunch.
