Located off the Anatolian coast, Chios is the fifth largest of the Greek Islands and is situated in the Aegean Sea, approximately 8km from the Turkish coast. Measuring approximately 843 km2, Chios is famous for its mastic gum production and although being a popular holiday destination, it’s not overrun by tourists. The island is home to a variety of historical attractions including a number of medieval villages and a UNESCO World Heritage Nea Moni monastery which dates back as far as the 11th century.
