Traditional Fijian resort

This was my first visit and it definitely won't be the last.
I loved everything about this place. The garden bure was very private with a lovely balcony, outdoor shower, inside day bed and kitchenette.
All meals were included and were of exceptionally high standard. Each nightly buffet was themed and included lots of variety for vegans and vegetarians.
The staff are first rate and so keen to please. Remembering our names and room numbers.
There are lots of activities included such as snorkelling and non-motorised water sports. We used the SUPs for a morning.
The paid activities all seemed reasonably priced though we only did the deep water snorkelling which was great value at $35 FJD each.
I highly recommend the garden bures (we had number 51) for the privacy and price.

Disappointed

We were underwhelmed by Musket Cove. I thought that we would be able to swim right from the beach, but at low tide there was just a kilometre or so of sand flats, and at high tide it was still too shallow for a decent swim. The swimming pool is a bit small to cater for all the guests and was usually full of little children. Not nearly enough sun loungers by the pool - and the loungers were 'booked' with towels and clothing from early in the morning.
Wifi is only available at reception and either of the two restaurants and even there it was pretty slow. We had problems connecting to it every day, and we would have been using it more often than usual because of the lack of anything else to do. We did read lots of books though.
The beach bures were nice and bed was comfortable. Aircon and ceiling fans were provided. The bathroom was also ok but the water pressure was terrible in the shower. The shower also smelt because of the drain - it would gurgle away for hours and we assume there must be an external issue with the plumbing.
There are some walking tracks so we did have a walk every day, but there wasn't much to look at while we walked. You can walk to the next resort very easily - Plantation Resort, which was a real family resort but a bit noisy.
Sandbank snorkelling was good - free but you have to book. We also went on the island hop -$85 per person - you can see all the other resorts around the Mamanukas, and you stop at one of two for a while. Also included in that trip is snorkelling off Honeymoon Island, and that was really good.
We went for a week and it was too long. If we had been able to go swimming every day it would have made a difference. After all, if you go for a holiday at the beach, on a lovely tropical isle, you do expect to be able to swim in the sea.
Rooms must be vacated at 10am on the day you leave, and they are very quick to cut your wifi access. We caught the ferry that departed at 8.45am and our wifi was cancelled before then. If you take the 8.45am ferry you can spend a couple of hours or more in Denarau Port - lots of restaurants and shops there, and free hi speed wifi.
