Getting to Echuca

Located under 3 hours north of Melbourne, getting to Echuca is easy thanks to a great network of clearly signed and well-maintained highways. There are two primary routes to Echuca from Melbourne via either the Hume Freeway or Northern Highway. If you’re visiting from further afield and are arriving at the Melbourne Airport, there are plenty of car hire options available at the terminal as well as public transport options including the Skybus which will take you to Southern Cross Station in Melbourne where you can get a bus or train to Echuca.

Heading out of the city on the Citylink tollway, enter the Hume Highway and continue on for 50km before merging onto the Northern Highway, following it all the way in to Echuca. Allow yourself plenty of time for the journey and stop in at some of the charming towns along the way. Stretch your legs or grab a bit to eat at Kilmore, Heathcote or Rochester enroute to Echuca.

If you don’t have the luxury of your own vehicle, there are some great public transport options for getting to Echuca. There are a number of daily rail and bus services that operate to Echuca Moama. In fact, Countrylink operates train services from Sydney to Albury with stops at most of the major towns and cities located throughout the route including a connecting bus service to Echuca.

Meanwhile, V/Line also offers direct bus services from Melbourne to Echuca as well as rail services from Murchison in Melbourne and Bendigo, stopping at many of the cities and towns in between, with a connecting bus to Echuca. An easy and affordable way to travel, public transport is an excellent option that allows you to sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery while someone else takes care of the driving.
