Additional Info

How Much Experience: No licence is required to skipper yourself. To sail a yacht or catamaran, you will need some experience with a yacht, big or small. General boating experience is usually enough for Whitsunday Rent-A-Yacht to teach you to operate a catamaran during your briefing.

Trip Preparation: On arrival at the charter base you will begin your briefing session. You will then be given a thorough overview of all aspects of the operation of the vessel both below and above decks. A very comprehensive familiarisation on all aspects of navigating through the islands, tides, weather conditions and suitable anchorages is then given. This is a good time to inquire about any specific interests you may have (diving/fishing locations, walking tracks, island resorts to visit, etc.). You will be taken for a sail to see that you are fully conversant and confident with the operation of your vessel. The instructors are all qualified and are happy to provide your crew with plenty of sailing and boat handling tips and training. Your vessel briefing normally takes around 3 hours. If you are not very experienced and require further tuition, you can be provided a guide at an additional cost. Please note that all guides must be booked in advance or it cannot be guaranteed they will be available on the day of charter. The standard commencement briefing time is 12noon, but 8am briefings are available on request. The charter finishes at 12noon on the last day of charter on return to the nominated private jetty at Shute Harbour. As charterers are required to be safely anchored by 4pm, arrival after 12 noon means charterers may be required to spend the first night in Shute Harbour.

What to bring: Apart from food and clothing all vessels come completely equipped. We recommend light personal clothing, a book, camera and possibly a tracksuit for the cooler months of the year (June-September). Children's life jackets, a good hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are a must. Evening wear on all resorts is neat casual.

Provisioning the Vessel: You may choose to supply your own provisions, although a provisioning company can do this for you. Basic essentials in the galley are supplied (sponges, matches, detergent, paper towels, insect repellent, garbage bags, toilet paper, guest soap, air freshener). The nearest supermarket is at Cannonvale, which is 15 km from the charter base.

Excludes: Great Barrier Reef Marine Park fee, damage levy fee, meals and drinks, sail guide and host/cook, fuel and snorkel gear charged at $5.50 per person per charter.

Optional Extras: Cruise guide, Watersports Equipment (inc. snorkelling), Stinger Suits, Wet Suits and provisioning for meals and drinks.

Marine Park Fee: A Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Fee plus associated charges is applicable to all charterers and is payable in full prior to departure. Cost is 30.00 per person per charter.

Deposit: A $750 deposit is required to secure your charter.

Balance of Fees: These are due to reach us no later than 70 days prior to departure.

Security Bond: Whitsunday Rent A Yacht reserves the right (without showing cause) to apply a $2500 Security Bond to any charter.

Damage Levy Fee: Non-refundable Damage Levy Fee provides the charterer with a No Blame Policy that protects the charterer against any cost incurred to rectify damage to the vessel and its fittings or loss of inventory from the vessel, providing at all times the charter vessel is operated in a safe and responsible manner in accordance with the charter agreement. The fee is calculated at a rate according to vessel size by the number of nights (to a maximum of 7 nights) the vessel is on charter. Cost $100 per boat subject to change.

Cancellations: Cancellation fees and conditions apply once a booking is confirmed, charters cancelled 60 days inside will only be considered for a refund if we find a substitute booking. Fuel is charged on all vessels on a user pay system paid at end of charter.

Travel Insurance: Full cover for fares, accommodation and charter fees is available for an extra cost. We strongly recommend that you insure against having to cancel for reasons beyond your control. Overseas clients should arrange cover before leaving their home country.

Regulations: Contact is made with each vessel twice daily, at 08.00 and 16.00 hours. We will keep you informed of weather forecasts, special events and provide advice about your proposed anchorages.

Extended Charters: 8+ nights require return to port half way through your charter to be supplied with fresh linen, re-fuelled, water tanks refilled and re-provisioned (if pre-purchased).

Hamilton Island Pick Up: All charges such as Damage Levy Fee, Reef Tax, Extras, Provisioning etc. must be prepaid 2 weeks prior to pick up (recommended that this is done online).
