Hamilton Facts

Hamilton’s Maori name is Kirikiriroa which translates to mean ‘long stretch of gravel’. Hamilton experiences some of New Zealand’s hottest summers, with temperatures rising up to 28 degrees Celsius. The Hobbiton village, created for the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, is located in farmland near Matamata and since opening as a tourist attraction, has become one of the most popular attractions in the whole of New Zealand.
