Getting to Shellharbour is easy, with the trip from Sydney along the F6 freeway only taking just over an hour. The Hume Highway connects Canberra to Shellharbour with the whole trip taking just over two and a half hours. Alternatively, Newcastle is just 3 hours from Shellharbour while travelling from Melbourne takes 9 hours and driving from places further north like Brisbane will take about twelve and a half hours. There are also regular rail services from Sydney and coaches from Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. Although the Wollongong Illawarra Regional Airport is located within Shellharbour, the closest major airport is the Sydney International Airport where transfers to Shellharbour are available.
