Getting Around Crete

There are daily flights to Heraklion and Chania from Athens and numerous charter flights from Europe to Crete. Additionally daily ferries depart Piraeus port near Athens and take approximately 8-12 hours to reach Crete. All ferries offer a range of cabin accommodation and modern facilities including restaurants and bars on board.

There are numerous car hire companies on the island and driving is a good option to discover Crete. The public transport is also well established and the visitor can easily travel between the main cities, as well as the more remote villages of the island. Generally speaking you will always find somebody who speaks English at the bus station who can assist with your itinerary.
